We asked our readers what they loved about gardening and in particular container gardening. Some of the answers were a bit weird, but we have always found gardeners to be lively people, often with their own very particular make on life!

Garden Love

What they said they love about their container gardens:-

I love, love, love the dirt and sun and mud. (Hmm - is that really what gardening is about?)

I love to scratch around in the dirt, tend the flowers, talk with the neighbour, admire the abundance of vegetables, wind in the trees.

Love my itty bitty flower garden of salmon colored (I think that’s right) geraniums…. (Why wouldn't it be right?)

We just love the carpet roses we established last year.

I love the brickwork. (Yes, we know! Weird?)

I love the idea of planting in old tree stumps for containers.

I loved it when I saw a picture of old washtubs planted with herbacious flower species.  (Sounds fairly grotty to us! Tastes vary..)

I love finding large rocks (20-100lbs) that farmers in our area love getting rid of and putting them in the flower garden.

I love and adore watching flowers grow, but again hate getting my fingers dirty... (You could always wear gloves?)

I love azaleas but up here they don't bloom very long -- maybe a week and then poof, they're green.  (Really?)

I love cucumbers too much to give up on them yet. (Yes, but you can't marry them...)
